The Paycheck Snapshot

Tell us what you make and where you live. We’ll show you what actually hits your bank account after federal, state, FICA, and any deductions — with every source cited.

As it appears on your pay stub, before any taxes or deductions.

All 50 states plus the District of Columbia. State-specific notes and excluded local taxes (where applicable) appear with your result.

Optional — only if they apply to you

The modern federal W-4 has no allowances; some states still use them. We estimate at none — pick “I claim some” to see a note on how that shifts your number.

401(k), HSA, health premiums (per paycheck).

Roth 401(k), garnishments, after-tax benefits.

If you’ve asked your employer to take out extra tax each paycheck. Most people leave this blank.

What this tool does and doesn’t do

  • Does: federal income tax (W-4 2020+, standard withholding), Social Security, Medicare, additional Medicare on high wages, state income tax for any state + DC, and California-style state disability where it applies.
  • Doesn’t yet: multiple jobs, bonus pay, equity comp, local city taxes, complex deductions, or state-specific items like NY/NJ family-leave or OR transit. We don't model those yet.
  • This is a planning estimate. It is not tax advice. Confirm important decisions with a qualified tax professional.
